The debut single from The Gorgeous Chans pulses with tropical rhythms and will have you dancing long into the night
he Gorgeous Chans are a Nottingham-based band who took early inspiration from Paul Simon’s Graceland. On the basis of debut single Marina & I, the six-piece have squeezed the rhythmic melodies from one of music’s most influential albums and created their own tropical tasting indie from its juices.
Infused with a sumptuous brass hook and crisp guitars it is an instant summer classic that entices you out onto the dancefloor. Brandon Hill’s vocals may lack some of Simon’s New York cool but he more than makes up for it in passion as he sings “you don’t really value the summer / unless you have a winter like the ones that we’re used to”.
Fans of Bombay Bicycle Club and Vampire Weekend will love this track and as far as debut singles go, it doesn’t much better.
Verdict: As much fun as you could wish for on a summer’s day
