This high energy Japanese trio invite us to celebrate 35 years of music with 2016’s most uplifting single so far
It was a surprise to find out that energetic, Japanese trio, Shonen Knife were due to celebrate 35 years in the business and that this single is taken from their 16th studio album, Adventure.
Dressed in Bacofoil jumpsuits for the song’s video, the band sound fresher and more vibrant than most of the debut acts from the last 12 months. Labelled as the ‘Osaka Ramones’ because of their catchy bubblegum, pop-punk sound – think of The Pipettes, minus the polka dot dresses – their likeness to Joey and his chums is showcased perfectly on this track.
Jump Into The New World sets out its intent from the very start, with the opening riff as wonderfully simplistic and attention grabbing as the Sex Pistols’ Pretty Vacant. The harmonies are perfect and the melodies therapeutic, as the ladies show us a brighter and untroubled new world.
Verdict: Bubblegum pop-punk at its very best
