Festive classics draw their creators back into the charts, with the ‘Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer’ songwriter taking on hip-hop’s elite
Last week saw the return of Mariah Carey and her co-writer Walter Afanasieff with All I Want For Christmas, but they’re not the only writers benefitting from the holiday season. Johnny Marks, a Songwriters Hall of Fame member since 1981, has made a triumphant return this week to the No 2 spot. Though Marks is Jewish, he is best known for his many Christmas classics like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Silver & Gold. This week, however, it’s Brenda Lee’s Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree and Burl Ive’s version of A Holly Jolly Christmas which earn him his place among the hitmakers.
Also new to the US chart this week are Rogét Chahayed & Brooklyn rapper 6ix9ine. Chahayed is part of the all-star songwriting team who co-wrote Halsey’s Bad At Love and Miguel’s Sky Walker. 6ix9ine’s Gummo has been making waves for quite some time, with the help from Spotify’s Rap Caviar playlist with over 1.5 million streams. However, it’s the success of Kooda that has led him to take the No 4 spot this week.
