NOISY RIVER BY KENNETH ISHAK
Noisy River by songwriter and producer Kenneth Ishak brings together fragments and observations inspired by his aunt and turns them into a charming indie-flavoured tribute. Forthcoming album Native Tongue contains further reflections on his identity.

CEREMONY BY LAURA-MARY CARTER
On Ceremony, Laura-Mary Carter brings together a drooping bassline and bric-a-brac percussion. The resulting lost-and-found feel somehow matches the song’s theme of the freedom and sacrifice that come with following your own path.

DESIREE BY NOON GARDEN
Inspired by the cowboy psychedelia of Lee Hazlewood, Desiree finds Noon Garden taking that influence and conjuring up a rich and inviting soundscape all of his own. We’re looking forward to immersing ourselves in a full album next year.

SOMETHING SO SWEET BY COUSIN KULA
Something So Sweet is the new song by Bristol outfit Cousin Kula. Extraterrestrial synths hover around the song’s intricate drumming and help to transport this modern jazz number to a psychedelic galaxy far, far away

STILLING BY CEDRIC NOEL
With a voice that is both soothing and soaring, Cedric Noel is a songwriter who knows when to hold back and when to let fly. He uses both to dizzying on Stilling, his latest soulful indie-rock masterpiece.

KILLERS BY LIZ CASS
Written with producer Ed Graves, Killers by Liz Cass is an alt-pop number that manages to please fans of classic songwriting and those who want some genuine ingenuity in their music. As admirers of both traits, we couldn’t be happier.

THE BALLAD OF SISSY & PORTER BY THE WHITMORE SISTERS
Inspired by the death of Chris Porter in 2016, The Ballad Of Sissy & Porter finds The Whitmore Sisters paying homage to the storytelling abilities of their friend. Soaked in Cajun fiddle and accordion, it’s bluegrass music at its finest.

OUIJA BY CASPER SKULLS
Ouija is the latest single from Toronto-based band Casper Skulls. Retreating from the more expansive sound of previous work, there’s a renewed and welcome focus on Melanie St-Pierre’s lyrics and the chiming guitar of Neil Bednis.

With a nod to the wonky feel of old-school disco, The Pageant is the new jam from multi-instrumentalist Abbacaxi. With elements of soul and house added to the mix, not to mention the sumptuous bass groove, it’s an effervescent explosion.

Uniting on a new three-track EP, Born To Die brings out the best in two of Canada’s finest, JJ Wilde and Billy Raffoul. The collection strips their rockier inclinations back to folkier foundations; the title track is our pick of the bunch

With a blend of pop, rock and punk that will appeal to fans of bands like Spitz and Sheer Mag, Mirror is the punchy new single from Halifax, Nova Scotia-based band Century Egg. Propelled by blistering drums, bass and guitar, it’s an unstoppable force

IN THE ARMS OF DECEMBER BY MEMORIAL
There’s a softness and clarity to In The Arms Of December akin to a country walk on a crisp winter morning. It’s the latest from promising alt-folk duo Memorial and the addition of a rolling snare drum adds a subtly festive feel.

SHOULDA KNOWN BY AMANDA MAY
Shoulda Known is a belting RnB song from Amanda May. A betrayal laid bare, there’s a palpable sense of emotion in the Toronto-based singer’s voice as the telltale signs of infidelity begin to surface.
