A purveyor of ambient tones, Låpsley won’t leave you falling short

Rising solo artist Låpsley’s new single ‘Falling Short’ shows off her keen ear for modern alternative and integrates it perfectly

Falling Short by Låpsley (Single)Falling Short by Låpsley (Single)åpsley AKA Holly Fletcher is a songwriter/producer hailing from Liverpool. Låpsley arrived on the scene last year with a fresh take on ambient acoustic music with electronic subtleties, and earlier this year the 18-year-old won Liverpool’s GIT (Get Into This) One To Watch award. Showing why she won, Låpsley’s new single Falling Short boasts a mature, professional and soulful sound that integrates hints of popular electronic music.

Falling Short is a sincere piano led number. Pitting this alongside Låpsley’s strong and soulful voice gives the song an almost pop like quality, akin to the rising star Sam Smith. The comparison falls short due to what surrounds the track – blips of bass that transition with the piano and samples of pitched down vocals that have become increasingly popular in dance tracks, down to the likes of popular R&B classics remixer Cyril Hahn – it’s three and a half minutes of passionate and modern music.

Låpsley writes and produces her own music and has managed to create a track that is incredibly ‘now.’ Backing this claim Falling Short will be featured on Queen-of-Cool Radio One DJ Annie Mac’s latest compilation album; a way in which countless artists have found their first break. Låpsley’s music is refreshing and exciting and it promises that she won’t remain secret much longer.

Verdict: a refreshing track that takes from a range of alternative music
