Piano-playing singer-songwriters, enter this popular competition to win a stunning digital piano and showcase your music to a live audience

Casio Music UK recently announced the second edition of its popular singer-songwriter competition, Casio Sessions. This year, the competition is open to UK-based, piano-playing singer-songwriters who have a passion for creating original music. The grand prize for the competition is a stunning PX-S7000HM digital piano, one of Casio’s premium models valued at £2,249. But that’s not all—the winner will also receive an exclusive studio mastering session and have their winning song pressed to vinyl, courtesy of Breed Media.

To enter, musicians need to submit a video of themselves performing an original composition—cover songs will not be considered. This is a chance to show off your songwriting skills and piano-playing prowess. Applications are now open until midnight on 6 August.

From the entries, twelve finalists will be chosen to perform in a live final at the stylish Ninety One Living Room venue in Brick Lane, London, on 4 September 2024. Performing in front of a live audience and a panel of judges, the finalists will have the chance to play on Casio’s award-winning PX-S7000 in its stunning Harmonious Mustard finish—the same model the winner will take home.

Performances will be judged on several criteria, including stage presence, writing, singing, and playing ability. Last year, the judges were so impressed by the talent that they awarded the top prize to two finalists. May Payne and Stefan Mahendra both wowed the audience and judges with their original pieces, earning them each a PX-S7000 piano. Since their win, both artists have released EPs and performed around the UK, showcasing the opportunities that come with winning Casio Sessions. We had the pleasure of chatting with May and Stefan after their win.

Speaking about their win, Payne told us, “Honestly I was so surprised, I wasn’t expecting it at all. I was so happy but really in shock! As soon as I saw the other artists play I was happy to have been included but completely convinced that I wouldn’t win.”

Mahendra also shared a tip with us for writing songs on the piano, “You don’t need loads of fancy chord knowledge to write songs on the piano. Some songs are very simple and it’s all about feeling. There are so many beautiful melodies that work over very simple chords, it’s just about finding what resonates with you and the song you are writing.”

Don’t miss the chance to enter Casio Sessions 2024. Whether you are an emerging artist looking for your big break or an established musician eager for new opportunities, this competition is the perfect platform to showcase your talent.
