Kinda blue: Ten Ton Man

‘Gritty Americana’ trio Ten Ton Man return to our Thursday exclusive slot as Songwriting proudly debuts their new six-track EP

PermissionToSin EP coverJust over a month ago, our Thursday exclusive was Ten Ton Man’s track Bone To Pick. Today they become the first act ever to feature in the coveted slot twice as we present a world-first listen to their six-track EP Permission To Sin.

Ten Ton Man were formed in 2011 by main man Paul Livornese (vox/guitar), who was joined by bassist Paul Dugan and the late Paul Triff on drums. Banjo/pedal steel player Erik Della Penna has since joined the line-up, and the band are a regular fixture on the NYC live circuit.

Here’s what they have to say about the new EP: “Ten Ton Man is back spinning yarns of transgression in the band’s new EP, Permission To Sin. There are no regrets for this hitman of audio noir in A Bone To Pick, and no remorse in Crazy Theory. Permission To Sin resonates musically as a dark, thematic storytelling anthology wrapped in Berlin cabaret, smoked in blues and drenched in booze. Warning: you will get caught in the Ten Ton Man’s noose.

Hype sheet comparisons for this one include Nick Cave, Johnny Cash and Tom Waits, all of which seem pretty apt to us! But see what you think…
