Empty Vessels by Wolf People (Single)

On the second single to come from their second album ‘Fain’, Wolf People dwell in the ambience of Syd Barrett

Empty Vessels is the second single to be drawn from Fain, following the release of All Returns back in March. As is fitting for a band whose influences are steeped in the classic psychedelic rock of Cream and Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd, the song begins with a roughly weighted and lengthy, hanging guitar solo. The verses are faithful to the blueprint of discordant melodies of Barrett’s Floyd, with a dash of Caravan’s bliss and the hard riffing of Black Sabbath thrown in for good measure.

At the song’s climax it’s impossible not to feel a little nostalgic for the days when heady psychedelia reigned supreme in the court of rock music. The band’s singer and guitarist Jack Sharp likens the song to an oncoming storm and with the recent inclement UK spring weather, now seems the perfect time for Empty Vessels to pour out of your speakers.

Verdict: A fine slice of blissful psychedelic rock
