Two ex-members of The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster reunite releasing energetic debut LP on their own Hanging House record label

Piano Wire 'Dream Underground' album coverPiano Wire sees ex-band mates Sym Gharial and Andy Huxley once again join forces, creating their first album together since the split of The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster. Dream Underground is the follow-up to the band’s 2015 debut EP, The Genius Of The Crowd, and it won’t disappoint fans of the original band.

Having said that, it is important to clarify that Piano Wire is not a continuation of the pair’s previous band. But as it’s Gharial and Huxley writing the songs, there are similarities. They may have dropped the psychobilly singing style, but the heavy rock attitude is present in abundance. Outline Of A Massacre is full of catchy poetic lyricism with a fidgety bass line and manic guitar solo.

Cherry Coma is a blend of rock and pop sensibilities, proof that the band aren’t afraid to marry musical styles. It places the band in that undiluted area of the music industry occupied by the likes of Modest Mouse, Thee Oh Sees and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! Weird Heroes is strategically placed in the middle, acting as the album’s reflective interlude.

Piano Wire thrive because of the creative partnership of Sym Gharial and Andy Huxley. If continued, then this could be the start of an exciting love affair involving rock fans of all denominations.

Verdict: Non-pretentious rock music inspired by Oscar Wilde
