IK Multimedia sets the iRig Acoustic Stage
The new digital microphone system captures the natural sound of any acoustic instrument, while allowing the freedom to move around
Mobile music gear specialist IK Multimedia has launched the iRig Acoustic Stage – a combined microphone, pre-amplifier and digital signal processing system. The MEMS microphone clips on to the sound hole of an acoustic instrument and the preamp and DSP unit captures the tone and ‘air’ of the instrument when playing live or recording in home and project studios.
The ultra-compact MEMS microphone can be slid into place or removed from the sound hole of the instrument without any modification to the instrument, regardless of whether it is an acoustic guitar or other acoustic instruments like ukulele, acoustic bass, bouzouki, mandolin, etc.
The DSP analyses the incoming signal from the guitar – both the overall sound and nuance of the instrument and the playing technique – and builds an optimised tone profile. The profile can then be enhanced through the use of six selectable tone presets: three for steel string instruments – natural, warm and bright – and the same three optimised for nylon string instruments.
iRig Acoustic Stage features a built-in digital feedback suppression algorithm to eliminate offending frequencies from the live sound with the press of an oversize button. The unit also offers an AUX input with blend control – designed for use with an acoustic electric’s onboard piezo or magnetic pickup – which allows players to mix the audio from pickup with the microphone signal. A phase inversion switch that lets users swap the phase of the microphone or AUX signal.
Furthermore, the Acoustic Stage includes a class-compliant USB audio output, allowing direct connection to a computer or a mobile device, for plug-and-play recording in any DAW or recording app.
iRig Acoustic Stage is available now at $/€99.99 (approx. £85). For more information, please visit: irigacousticstage.com
