Crispin Burton and Dilettante wow judges and audience alike at the live final held at London’s Ninety One Living Room

On 5 September, Casio Music UK’s Casio Sessions singer-songwriter competition for piano players concluded its second year with a live final at Ninety One Living Room in London’s Brick Lane. With 15 finalists performing their original compositions on the night, the panel of judges were won over by joint winners Crispin Burton and Dilettante and their respective songs If You Hear My Voice and I’m In Love With Falling In Love. Both winners took home a Casio PX-S7000 digital piano, along with an exclusive studio mastering session and 250 vinyl records of their winning songs, provided by Breed Media.

Speaking about the night, Burton said, “It’s such an honour to win. I’ve never properly won a competition, so it’s nice to prove to myself that I’m going in the right direction. There was so much incredible talent, I was shocked! And I think I’ve found about 14 other new artists I’m now a fan of. Thanks so much to Casio and Breed for this amazing opportunity.”

Dilettante, who has previously supported has supported Self Esteem, Philip Selway, and Graham Coxon, was equally thrilled, stating, “It’s very unexpected but incredibly exciting! Thanks so much to Casio and Breed – I can’t wait to get hold of the vinyl and have the PX-S7000 in the studio as it’s so nice to play. A big shout out to all the other finalists for their performances too!”

Last year’s winners, May Payne and Stefan Mahendra, returned to perform new songs, demonstrating the competition’s role in helping songwriter further their careers. Each of the 15 finalists received professional photography and videography of their performances as part of the event.

The final word goes to Head of Casio EMI Neil Evans, “A massive congratulations to Crispin and Dilettante. Their performances captivated the audience and demonstrated high levels of skill, so we just had to split the award! We are delighted to award them both a PX-S7000, the exclusive mastering session and vinyl run. Tonight we watched fifteen amazing performances, showcasing the depth of talent that is out there. Casio Music is proud to give a platform to such inspiring individuals and Sessions is testament to how much talent is out there.”

We’ll be interviewing the winners shortly, in the meantime you can find out more about Casio Sessions here casio.co.uk/emi/casio-sessions
