Pete Uhlenbruch: “What are we trying to find?”

The Australian musician takes inspiration from his recent travels, which he matches with a soundscape fitting of his Icelandic home

Owls Of The Swamp 'Meteorite' EP coverPete Uhlenbruch is an Australian musician currently living in Iceland, whose new EP was inspired by a “transformative adventure to Peru following an inner calling to work with the potent visionary plant medicine, Ayahuasca.” It’s therefore no surprise that Meteorite blends a glacial atmosphere with meditative ruminations.

Start All Over, with the beat of a defective metronome, introduces the EP’s main question as Uhlenbruch asks, “What are we trying to find?” The search continues on Skipping Stones, where an uncluttered musical canvas plays host to his soothing vocals.

The title track adds the distorted colours of the aurora borealis before it settles into a gentle ballad, leaving the glimmering I Found You to close out the night. It’s a fitting end for this introspective traveller’s journey and restores calm to his restless wanderlust. His adventure has clearly served him well and Meteorite is the enjoyable outcome.

Verdict: Mysterious wonder
