The new EP from psychedelic four-piece Venice Trip is proof that there’s still plenty of life left in the genre
fter resurgence comes saturation, or so seems to be the case with the UK psychedelic scene, as every new band seemingly wants to nail their colours to the tie-died mast. Thankfully though Venice Trip might just be the real deal, as they prove on their brooding new EP Look Forward.
The title track is reminiscent of The Coral at their best; a scorching bundle of energy and melody. The trip then slows down on the meditative Oh Katy as a hypnotic groove takes over. Finally is Father Of The Universe a deceptively tranquil song which bursts into a musical maestrom to bring proceedings to a raging close.
This may not be the most original music that you’ll hear this year, but it certainly raises Venice Trip into the upper echelons of modern psych rock.
Verdict: Rhythm, blues and hallucinogens
