The British-Ugandan’s latest track is a burst of fast-paced pop which promises to raise eyebrows and get your foot tapping
Hot Electrolytes starts out of nowhere and you’re thrown into the song with little regard for an introduction. However, this is a good thing, because you’ll find yourself instantly tapping your foot and raising a smile, as the infectious rhythms dig their hooks into you.
Love Ssega’s eclectic influences, honed through years of rifling through his father’s vinyl collection, are clearly on display; the trained ear will note that the interplay between the guitar and bass nods to The Strokes, and elsewhere you’ll hear echoes of Talking Heads, LCD Soundsystem, New Young Pony Club and Madness.
Hot Electrolytes is the lead single from Love Ssega’s forthcoming EP Emancipation! If the songs on that EP are as finely crafted and fast-paced as this superb single, then you will be in for a treat.
Verdict: Eclectic, finely tuned pop
