It’s only November, but the John Lewis ad campaign has arrived to decorate our spirits, with the help of Vaults
For many people the most exciting part in the run up to Christmas is the release of the John Lewis Christmas advert. The nostalgic, heart-warming themes are one of the attractions; the other is the music. Over the years there have been some exceptional covers by Lily Allen and Gabrielle Aplin. Now it is the turn of English electronica band Vaults to take the reins for this year’s advert.
Originally a David Bowie song had been tipped to accompany the advert. However, the company finally settled on One Day I’ll Fly Away by Randy Crawford and approached the trio to record the song for this year’s campaign. The band explained: “We met the arranger Chris Hill and worked with him… Before going into Abbey Road [studios].”
Formed in London in 2013, Vaults have already garnered a significant amount of success. Their first song Cry No More was uploaded to SoundCloud and received 100,000 plays within its first week. Virgin EMI signed the group in 2014 and in 2015 the band were featured on the soundtrack to the Fifty Shades Of Grey film.
The advert was released on Thursday 10 November and made its TV debut on ITV.
