Elton John announces details of his final tour, but the party’s not, as he plans on going out in style

He’s one of the most revered songwriters to have lived, but Elton John is calling time on touring. However, he’s not going quietly, as the singer is planning one more party. The Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour will comprise of 300 shows over three years, across five continents; it will be the tour to end all tours.

John said: “It is the last time that I will be touring and travelling the world because my priorities have changed in my life,” he said. “I want to go out with a bang.”

The Rocket Man singer is retiring from touring to raise his children. John has also suggested that the way music is consumed these days added to the decision, saying: “Things have changed in the music business… We’ve definitely gone after streaming, YouTube and people like that.”

Adding: “If you write a song, you want people to hear it and you want them to hear it and become a part of their lives.”

But this isn’t the last we’ll hear of an artist who has a career spanning 55 years, over 50 Top 40 hits, including seven consecutive No 1 US albums, as Elton John will continue to write songs and be creative. He has expressed an interest in playing residency shows like Kate Bush’s 22-night stint in Hammersmith in 2014.
