Behringer are working on an affordable Minimoog rival

Minimoog that won’t break the bank – Behringer in early planning stages of rival synthesiser that could match Moog’s specs

Audio giants Behringer are planning their version of the Minimoog. It is called the Behringer D. The synthesiser is designed for desktop use, but is also Eurorack compatible. And it will match the transistors and JFETs of the original D Type model.

The recent re-release of Moog’s Minimoog has gone down well. The Model D synthesiser is considered a classic within the industry, and with a price tag of more than £3000 it should have that status. However, the price means most musicians will never be able to afford their own Minimoog.

The Behringer D is still in the prototype stage of development. Company founder Uli Behringer says there are plans to undertake market research before moving forward with its development. He went on to say that the target price would be £400 – a price tag that could potentially prove very popular with musicians.

The proposed specs of the Behringer D include an overdrive circuit and noise generator. Its analogue signal path is based on authentic VCO, VCF and VCA designs. It has 46 controls for real-time access to parameters, and 16-voice MIDI poly chain.
