Kid Cupid sit at the more refined end of the indie-tro table
Tonight’s exclusive video is a synth-laden treat to kick off the weekend and comes courtesy of a youthful London quartet
In the post-Chvrches world, where indie and electro have evolved beyond mutual bed friends to sharing a mortgage and talking about how the years drained away, youthful London quartet Kid Cupid sit at the more refined end of the indie-tro table.
Having formed only a year ago, the group are still very much in their infancy. That, though, has been no hindrance to their songwriting, as is clear in their superb maiden offering Siren. Speaking of the track Kid Cupid say: “Siren is our debut single, we had a lot of fun creating it and discovering our sound. We wanted to focus on an anthem like hook that echoed the restlessness we feel around us.”
If anthemic is the sound of things, the sight is equally alluring. Speaking of their exclusive video, the band say: “Making the video was a lot of fun! We shot in London which was important to us because it’s where the band hails from and it’s a city that has heavily influenced our sound and therefore the perfect backdrop for our debut single.”
They’ve been likened to London Grammar, Young Galaxy and CHVRCHES. We think all those comparisons are valid and suggest that fans of both Paperwhite and Kate Boy will also find much to like in Kid Cupid’s synth addled melodies. However, as always we’ll leave the final assessment up to you.
