Legendary guitarist and songwriter has been suffering from a condition that can impair sensation and movements, restricting his guitar playing

He’s one of the most well known guitarists and songwriters on the globe, but Eric Clapton has revealed that he has been suffering from a condition that restricts his guitar playing for the past three years.

The condition is called peripheral neuropathy and it can lead to impairments in sensation and movements. Speaking to Classic Rock magazine, Clapton explained that he’s “had quite a lot of pain over the last year. It turned into what they call peripheral neuropathy – which is where you feel like you have electric shocks going down your leg.”

Continuing: “[It’s] hard work to play the guitar and I’ve had to come to terms with the fact that it will not improve.”

Eric Clapton began his career in music six decades ago and has played in some of history’s premier rock groups, including The Yardbirds, Cream and Blind Faith.
