With her rhapsodic voice and soulful lyrics, Zakiya Harris is a songwriter who demands your attention. Thankfully, once she’s got it you won’t regret having discovered her brilliant musical identity, The Sh8peshifter, for a second.

Today she brings you exclusive access to her song, After Darkness, of which she says: “Most people are afraid of the dark. They forget that all life begins a place of darkness, from fruits to human beings we all started in the fertile womb of the darkness. That is where all the magic happens. We are in the midst of a seemingly ‘dark’ time on the planet right now, but if we remember that the only thing guaranteed to come next is the light it may change how we perceive today.

Adding: “As for me, I am coming out of a dark period in my life, where I had to delve into my own childhood trauma and face my demons. It was scary and difficult and painful but it has made me who I am today and I wouldn’t change it for anything. Embrace the darkness and you embrace your light.”
