Grimes on album number four: “I think I was more in society when I was making it, so it feels more grounded.”

Noted songwriter Grimes will be giving fans just a days notice before she releases the long-awaited follow-up to 2012’s ‘Visions’

It’s been three years since Grimes released her lauded third album Visions and fans will have to wait a little longer before they find out when it’s follow-up will be out, with the musician stating that her fourth album will be announced only the day before it’s available this October.

Speaking with Consequence of Sound Grimes – aka Claire Boucher – said that she will also be adopting a “grounded” tone, explaining: “There’s a song that’s from the perspective of a butterfly in the Amazon as people are cutting down trees; there’s a song that’s from the perspective of angels who are polluted, so they’re crying polluted tears. I feel like it’s more about the Earth. I think I was more in society when I was making it, so it feels more grounded.”

Having released the originally written for Rihanna song Go in 2014, fans may fear that album number four will adopt a more commercial approach. Grimes, though, moved to allay such concerns, stating: “I hate that all music right now has to exist in the context of the Top 40. I just want to make music that’s good. Some good music is pop, some good music is not pop. Everyone is so driven by career stuff now – ‘Can you reach the most people? Can you get on the radio?’ It’s just like, maybe I don’t give a fuck?”

Visions was named album of the year by both Rough Trade and Resident and fans will hope that Grimes’ fourth album is of similar standing, even if they’ll have to keep guessing when it’ll be out.
