Zylia are releasing a revolutionary new microphone

The Zylia ZM-1 will be on the bill at this year’s Musikmesse in Frankfurt, and it’s set to revolutionise recording

Let’s get down to business. The Zylia ZM-1 is a USB multitrack microphone that boasts 19 mic capsules and supports 24-bit/48kHz recording. It works by extracting individual instruments onto separate tracks, so you can mix them on a DAW of your choice. The Zylia Studio software works with PC, Mac or Linux, making it a very versatile bit of kit.

Its creators decided that traditional recording methods of one microphone per instrument was too time-consuming to set up, and the level of knowledge needed to get the best out of microphones was too technical. So they set about creating the ZM-1.

The microphone will be on show at this year’s Musikmesse trade fair in Frankfurt. The event covers all things music, including sheet music, music production, instruments and marketing. It runs from 5 – 8 April.

It’s unclear whether the microphone could be used to record a finished album, or if it’s more of a demo tool. But either way, it is an exciting step in making the lives of songwriters and musicians easier.

The ZM-1 is priced at £999. You can check out how Zylia works here.
