It’s Sunday, so that means just one thing: Songwriting’s weekly round-up, featuring our SongsOfTheWeek playlist and Classic Of The Week

Phew… We don’t know about you folks, but team Songwriting are of the view that summer is well and truly here; festival season is under way, the cricket is back, but, most importantly, the sun has smashed through the clouds.

As such, we’ve spent the last seven days basking in the sun, feasting on ice cream, and getting ready for our next festival – we’ll be heading to Boomtown this August, what’s the next festival in your calendar?

Classic Of The Week

‘The Needle And The Damage Done’ by Neil Young (1972)

One of the finest tracks by a songwriting immortal: the one and only Neil Young. Inspired by the heroin overdoses and deaths of both Crazy Horse bandmate Danny Whittenn and roadie Bruce Berry, **The Needle And The Damage Done is the cutting tale of the damaging effect of substance abuse.
