Taylor Swift reasserts her position as the pre-eminent songwriter of now, by breaking two streaming records with her latest single

On her hugely anticipated new single, Look What You Made Me Do, Taylor Swift sings: “I’m sorry. The old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now. Why? Because she’s dead.” Well, she may have adopted a new style, but the old Taylor (the record breaker) is still very much alive and kicking.

That’s the reality, after it was announced that Look What You Made Me Do has broken not one, but two first-day streaming records. Spotify revealed that the track was played over 8 million times on the first day of its release, while the video was viewed 19 million times on YouTube.

Those figures saw Swift take the record for opening day streams and also for the highest number of opening day views on a lyric video, thus reasserting her position as the pre-eminent songwriter of now.

Look What You Made Me Do is set to be included on Swift’s upcoming sixth studio album, Reputation, which is due to be released on 10 November. You can watch Swiift’s record breaking video (again) below:
