Google is set to include lyrics within its search results, a move that could bring lyrics sites to an end

oogle has revealed that it will include lyrics within its search results, making the existence of lyrics websites potentially redundant. TechCrunch stated that Google will show the words to songs above it search results if the track is in Google’s Play Store, and if you append song lyrics on to the title of the song.

A spokesman for Google said “There’s a feeling you get when you turn to a song and you know that the words have two meanings. Well it’s whispered that now if you go search the tune, maybe Google will lead you to reason. Ooh, it makes you wonder…”

Critics though were quick to move against the notion that Google would eradicate lyrics websites, claiming the community aspect to such sites as the key to their longevity. LyricFind’s CEO Darryl Ballantyne (whose company license lyrics to third party sites such as Pandora, SoundHound & Shazam) said, “However, many sites also build community around the lyrics, which Google won’t replace. Sites like SongMeanings and MetroLyrics are more than just SEO farms; I expect they’ll continue to post impressive traffic numbers.”
