Smoky Mountains Songwriters Festival

The Smokey Mountains Songwriters Festival song contest is still open – but hurry!

If you’d like to submit a song to this year’s song contest, be quick: the deadline’s been extended till Wednesday

aking place in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, the Smoky Mountains Songwriters Festival is now in its fourth year. The festival gives aspiring songwriters the chance to attend workshops and co-writing/feedback sessions with proven hit song-makers from the worlds of country, folk and bluegrass, take part in a ‘band play-off’, and of course check out a ton of live music in and around the town.

This year’s festival will be held on 19-23 August, and once more features a song contest that’s open to all – the deadline for which has just been extended to 20 May. “We’ve extended the original deadline in order to give the participants of the Nashville Rising Star Open Mic Contest an opportunity to get their songs entered, as well as those songwriters who were used to the June deadline in years past,” says Festival Director, Cyndy Montgomery Reeves.

The overall winner of the song contest gets a $500 cash prize, plus the chance to have their demo professionaly produced by Beaird Music Group, which would normally set you back $625. There are also various cash prizes for the winners in each of the competition genres (bluegrass, country, folk, gospel, jazz/blues, pop and the ‘lyrics only’ contest). Click here for full terms and conditions – though before anyone writes in to complain, we should point out there is an entry fee involved, so if that bothers you, don’t click!

For more about the festival generally, see their website or find them on Facebook.
