Sam Smith provides the theme music for ‘SPECTRE’

The young British crooner is announced as the provider of the title music for ‘SPECTRE’, which is out on 26 October

ollowing weeks of speculation, it has been confirmed that Sam Smith will provide the theme tune for the next James Bond film. SPECTRE, the 24th film in the long-running spy franchise, will be out on 26 October in the UK and 6 November in the US, but Smith’s theme tune, Writing’s On The Wall, will be available to buy from 25 September.

Smith co-wrote the song with regular collaborator and fellow Grammy-winner Jimmy Napes, who’s also worked with the likes of Clean Bandit, Mary J Blige and Gorgon City. Smith will be the first British male solo artist to record a Bond theme since 1965, when the honour fell to Tom Jones (for Thunderball).

In a statement issued to the press, Smith said: “This is one of the highlights of my career. I am honoured to finally announce that I will be singing the next Bond theme song. I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations.  I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it.”

SPECTRE producer Barbara Broccoli said: “Sam and Jimmy have written the most inspirational song, and with Sam’s extraordinary vocal performance, Writing’s On The Wall will surely be considered one of the greatest Bond songs of all time.”
