Meredith O’Connor will be touring UK schools this week with an anti-bullying message

Teen singer/actress Meredith O’Connor will be touring UK schools this week with a set of songs aimed at combating bullying

eredith O’Connor is a rising teen pop star in the US, a purveyor of (in her words) “pop with a country feel” whose videos have attracted over two million views on YouTube. But Meredith’s a rising pop star with a difference, because she’s leveraging her appeal to young audiences to speak out about an issue close to her heart – bullying.

The former model and Miss USA pageant contestant was bullied herself during her school years, an experience she’s since written about in her song The Game. She’s gone on to partner with anti-bullying organisations including Champions Against Bullying and Reach Out, and be featured on CBS news for her work in US schools – and now she’s bringing that message to British shores.

From 7-16 January, Meredith will be touring schools in the UK, performing several anti-bullying songs including previous singles The Game and Just The Thing, hosting discussions about bullying and answering questions from the kids. The tour is operated on a not-for-profit basis, and will be followed by similar tours in Greece and Australia, as well as Meredith’s native USA. She will be appearing at the following schools:

Medina College, Newport, Isle Of Wight
Wolstanton High School, Wolstanton, Staffordshire
Skilts School, Redditch, Worcestershire
Greenvale School, Lewisham, London
Serlby Park Academy, Doncaster, South Yorkshire
Edward Peake Middle School, Biggleswade, Bedfordshire

Meredith also has a new single out this week called Being Me: for more information on the release or on her work to fight bullying, visit her website. In the meantime, Songwriting is always glad to see artists using their talents in a positive way and we’re sure readers will join us in wishing Meredith good luck with the tour!
