Much loved UK songwriter returns to play at this year’s Glastonbury Festival after an absence of more than ten years

The last time she played to the muddy masses (in 2004) she’d just released her superb sixth studio album Uh Huh Her and now, 12 years later and with a second Mercury Prize to her name, PJ Harvey will return to Glastonbury Festival.

Festival organiser Emily Eavis confirmed the news in an interview with BBC 6 Music. Speaking about the acts confirmed for this year’s festival, Eavis said: “The other thing that we have got is PJ Harvey’s coming back – I think the last time she played was 1994, so it’s been a long time. She’s a local girl and she’s amazing and always delivers an incredible show, so we’re really excited about that.”

Harvey releases her ninth studio album The Hope Six Demolition Project on 15 April, so not only will fans get the joy of seeing her live, but they’ll also get to hear her perform her first new music in half a decade. Excited? We certainly are.

Coldplay have been confirmed as the first headline act for Glastonbury 2016 and they recently scored their seventh UK No 1 album, after A Head Full Of Dreams pushed Adele’s 25 off the top spot. Eavis spoke of her pride at the band’s success, saying: “They had their first headline slot here. They only had one album, to headline the Pyramid Stage on one album is quite unusual, so there’s this definite sense of pride to see them go through everything they’ve been through to become this massive band.”

This year’s Glastonbury Festival runs from 22-26 June at Worthy Farm in Somerset.
