Pharrell’s gospel-inspired single ‘Happy’ won the BBC Music Awards’ Song Of The Year

Ed Sheeran is crowned Best British Artist but Pharrell Williams takes the Best International Artist and Song Of The Year

ast night saw the first of the BBC’s annual Music Awards ceremony, where Pharrell, Ed Sheeran and Catfish And The Bottlemen all went home winners. Hosted by BBC Radio DJs Fearne Cotton and Chris Evans, the event took place at London’s Earls Court and included performances from the likes of Coldplay, Take That, One Direction, Ellie Goulding, Clean Bandit and Calvin Harris.

As voted by the general public, the Song Of The Year Award went to American producer-songwriter Pharrell Williams for his mammoth global hit Happy. Pharrell was also presented with the Best International Artist, but was unable to attend to accept his pair of trophies in person, due to filming duties back in the US.

After dominating 2014’s charts both sides of the Atlantic, singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran was been crowned British Artist Of The Year ahead of fellow nominees David Bowie, Elbow, Sam Smith, Royal Blood and Jungle. Elsewhere, Catfish and the Bottlemen were also winners after taking home the BBC Introducing Award.
