Industry sources are reporting that band leader Billy Corgan is looking to restore Smashing Pumpkins’ original line-up for a tour

They last played together in 2000, but 16 years on it looks like Billy Corgan might have the news that Smashing Pumpkins fans have been waiting for since then, after it was reported that he’s seeking to get the band’s original line-up back together.

Corgan took to Facebook to tease fans on the possibility of the original band playing together again, saying: “there’s some big stuff happening. We’re making plans. I can’t give that away, but it’s going to be interesting.” It has also been reported in Consequence Of Sound that an industry insider has confirmed Corgan’s intention to get the original line-up back together, in order to embark on a tour and play festival dates next year.

Smashing Pumpkins formed in 1988, with the original line-up consisting of songwriter Billy Corgan (lead vocals, guitar), James Iha (guitar), D’arcy Wretzky (bass) and Jimmy Chamberlin (drums). The original line-up remained together until 1996, when Chamberlin was kicked out of the band due to his drug addiction. Chamberlain was reinstated in 1998 and the line-up continued until 2000, when Wretzky was also kicked out of the band because of drug addiction.
