ink Floyd’s original front man Syd Barrett is the subject of a new feature-length documentary called Have You Got It? that’s due out later this year. The film, which features interviews with all the surviving members of Pink Floyd, was originally going to be directed by long-term Floyd collaborator Storm Thorgerson; when Thorgerson passed away in 2013, the director’s role was handed over to Roddy Bogawa, who previously directed the 2011 documentary Taken By Storm: The Art Of Storm Thorgerson And Hipgnosis.

Roger Keith ‘Syd’ Barrett was a founding member of Pink Floyd, alongside childhood friend Roger Waters and David Gilmour, who he met while studying art at Cambridge Technical College in the early 60s. He left the group in 1968, however, halfway through the recording of their second album A Saucerful Of Secrets. At his final rehearsal with the band, he presented a new song called Have You Got It Yet? which was never recorded, and from which the new documentary borrows its title.

Barrett recorded two solo albums for EMI (The Madcap Laughs and Barrett, both 1970) but – suffering from mental health problems exacerbated by a prodigious intake of LSD and downers – he withdrew from the music industry soon afterwards and became a recluse, living at his mother’s house in Cambridge. He died of pancreatic cancer in 2006, aged 60.

You can watch the original 1967 promo film for one of Barrett’s best-loved compositions below.
