The New Songwriters Workshop lets you learn at your own pace, in your own home
The New Songwriters Workshop, taught by UK songwriter Oli Rockberger, gives you access to a series of 10 instructional videos for $25
nline learning is an ever-growing part of the educational landscape, enabling students to learn at their own pace, and at times to fit in with the rest of their lives. Music-making and production lends itself particularly well to the format, because watching someone play a guitar chord or adjust a set of faders is hugely preferable to reading wear to put your fingers or which faders to adjust in a book. And now there’s a new online course designed specifically for those writing music, too.
The course, The New Songwriters Workshop, has been set up by Brooklyn-based Soundfly, a provider of online music tuition, and is taught by Oli Rockberger, a UK songwriter who’s worked with the likes of Gloria Gaynor and Carly Simon. It consists of 10 video tutorials, six further ‘video challenges’ and a wealth of downloadable materials.
We’ll be road-testing the course for ourselves very soon but in the meantime, for more information hit up Soundfly.com, where – if the songwriting course doesn’t tickle your fancy – you’ll also find courses on such topics as ‘Touring on a shoestring’, ‘Building blocks of piano’ and ‘How to read music’.
