If you missed last year’s festival then never mind, because 2018’s event promises to be bigger, better and more diverse

Manchester Folk Festival will return for the second time on 18 October 2018. The four-day event is back after the success of its debut in 2017. Spread out over four venues, the extravaganza is the only festival that promotes new English folk and acoustic music.

This year’s showcase will take place at popular arts centre Home, independent venue Gorilla, the grade II listed The O2 Ritz, which will host the biggest events the festival has to offer, and Great Northern Warehouse, once the centre of the city’s industrial heritage. All venues are in close proximity to one another.

Xtra Mile Recordings will be showing off the best of their roaster featuring Beans On Toast, Skinny Lister, and Will Varley. Perhaps the biggest name to appear at this year’s event is Billy Bragg. Bragg’s musical style blends folk, punk and protest songs which attracts a wide and varied audience, proving the singer is just as popular today as he was during the punk movement in the late 1970s.

The city of Manchester is well known for it’s vibrant and multicultural music scene, and this event will prove that folk music is still fresh and pushing boundaries while eliminating any misconceptions that it’s all beards and sandals.

Manchester Folk Festival runs until October 21 and tickets go on sale March 23. For full line-up details visit the official website.
