Joni Mitchell in younger days

The veteran ‘Big Yellow Taxi’ singer-songwriter was rushed into hospital after being found unconscious at her Bel Air home yesterday

egendary singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell is in hospital in California, after being found unconscious yesterday. However, the latest reports suggest that the 72-year-old is making good progress – according to a post on her Twitter account early this morning, she is “awake and in good spirits”.

The news broke via a post on Mitchell’s official website last night, which said: “Joni was found unconscious in her home this afternoon. She regained consciousness on the ambulance ride to an L.A. area hospital. She is currently in intensive care undergoing tests and is awake and in good spirits. More updates to come as we hear them. Light a candle and sing a song, let’s all send good wishes her way.”

Mitchell is currently said to be “undergoing tests”, though there has been no statement as to what caused her collapse. It is not the first time, however, that she has had health problems. She survived polio as a young girl, has also had scarlet fever and in 2014 declared she was suffering from Morgellon’s disease, a skin condition that some western doctors believe to be psychosomatic.

We’re sure Songwriting readers will join us in wishing Joni a full and speedy recovery.
