ISC reveals its 2019 judging panel and, as usual, it includes some of music’s most talented artists and industry executives

Since 2002, the International Songwriting Competition (ISC) has attracted a host of music’s most respected figures for its judging panel. This year will be no different, as Coldplay, Dua Lipa, Tom Waits and American Authors join representatives from top record labels including Capitol, Warner and Parlophone to make up the pool of over 80 judges.

ISC’s mantra is to nurture talented songwriters of all levels including unsigned and unpublished artists. Annually, the competition gives away more than $150,000 in prize money split between 71 winners, with the grand prize amounting to $25,000. The competition covers a range of categories from blues, country, jazz and Latin to children’s and comedy.  All songs are judged on the same criteria regardless of category, which is creativity, originality, lyrics (excluding instrumental songs), melody, arrangement and overall likability. Past winners include Vance Joy, Bastille, Gregory Porter and Gotye.

“We are extremely honoured and appreciative to have so many renowned artists and industry executives included as judges this year,” said Candace Avery, the competition’s founder and director. “The participation of these judges is what sets ISC apart from other music competitions and is what makes ISC so special.”
