Kendrick Lamar, Taylor Swift, Meghan Trainor, Chris Stapleton, Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars win big at this year’s Grammy Awards

It’s the annual celebration of the most successful musicians of the year and yesterday (15 February) saw Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar make history at the 58th Grammy Awards at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Swift walked home with three awards in total, picking up her first two for Best Music Video (Bad Blood (featuring Kendrick Lamar)) and Best Pop Vocal Album (1989). It was her third, though, that saw her enter the history books, with her multi-platinum 1989 claiming Album Of The Year and making her the first woman to win the award twice. Speaking of her success Swift said:

“I want to say to all the young women out there, there are gonna be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame, but if you just focus on the work and you don’t let those people sidetrack you, someday when you get where you’re going you’ll look around and you will know that it was you and the people who love you who put you there, and that will be the greatest feeling in the world. Thank you for this moment.”

The night’s other big winner was Kendrick Lamar. Having begun the evening leading the way with 11 nominations, beating Eminem’s record of 10 to make him the rapper with the most nominations in history and placing him just one behind Michael Jackson’s all time record of 12. In the end Lamar had to settle for winning five awards, coming out on top in the Best Rap Album (To Pimp A Butterfly), Best Rap Performance (Alright), Best Rap Song (All Day), Best Rap/Sung Collaboration (These Walls (with Bilal, Anna Wise and Thundercat)) and Best Music Video (Bad Blood (featuring Taylor Swift)) categories.

Other notable winners at the 2016 Grammy Awards were Meghan Trainor, who was named Best New Artist; Chris Stapleton, who saw his record Traveller take home Best Country Album, with the title track claiming Best Country Solo Performance; and Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars, with Uptown Funk winning both Record Of The Year Won and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
