James Sayer is a pop-rock songwriter extraordinaire

Our second exclusive of the week is by a UK songwriter who’s been likened to some of pop-rock’s finest artists

Birmingham raised and London based artist James Sayer walks along a long worn songwriting path, taking the piano as his bow and effortlessly catchy pop-rock as his arrow to make a beeline for your dancing feet.

Having decamped to England’s capital in 2012, Sayer ground his fingers to the bone playing in piano bars, clubs and pubs. This lead him to recording an album’s worth of demos with American producer, Alan Glass and once those recordings got into the hands of five time Grammy winner and former member of The Doobie Brothers, Michael McDonald that was it.

Sayer then headed to the US. Here he supported George Ezra and BBC Radio 1 breakthrough act Ruen Brothers, performed at Coachella and had a live session with the legendary Slayer and Beastie Boys producer Rick Rubin.

Sweet Baby Jane is Sayer’s new song and of the track he says: “Growing up listening to Rhythm & Blues and Rock n Roll got me completely hooked on that style of music. This single, I hope, reflects all those joyous and happy sounds that have been swimming around my brain for so many years.”

He’s been likened to Billy Joel, Jamie Cullum and Jools Holland. We can’t fault those comparisons and think that fans of Elton John and Ray Charles will also enjoy Sweet Baby Jane.
