Lauren Adams’ fourth album ‘Somewhere Else’ is out in July

This week’s second exclusive comes in video form, as US singer-songwriter Lauren Adams debuts her brand new single ‘Somewhere Else’

For today’s exclusive, Songwriting proudly presents Somewhere Else, the new single by US singer-songwriter Lauren Adams. It’s actually something of a double-whammy premiere, because neither the track itself nor the video have been heard/seen before. The single trails her forthcoming album of the same name, which is out in July.

Unlike many of the acts that feature in this slot, Lauren Adams is no stranger to the music industry. Her first public performance was at the famous Troubadour club in Los Angeles in 1978, when she was just 23 years old. In the intervening years, she’s released three albums (Somewhere Else being the fourth), opened for Leon Russell and Rita Coolidge and had her track Thirsty featured on the soundtrack to the Nick Nolte movie Peaceful Warrior. She also hosted The Americana Music Circle for 10 years.

Of the song itself, she tells us: “I was thinking about writing about a place somewhere and this title just popped inside my head. Then, this song evolved into something exciting for me. It was another love song about trying to get out of a relationship. I thought about the idea that no matter where you go, there you are, and it’s the same with a relationship. It feels like you need to be somewhere else to get over it, but that’s not true.

“The fingerpicking style of this song is really close to my heart and Luke Halpin (of Bettman & Halpin) added some beautiful mandolin and fiddle parts. With Hank VanSickle on bass, this is closer to a bluegrass song than anything I’ve ever written.”

The hype sheet suggests this one will appeal to fans of artists like Carole King, The Eagles and Lucinda Williams, but as ever, you can make your own mind up!
