Up on the roof: Cheryl B Engelhardt

Some folk-pop goodness for you on this week’s Thursday exclusive, as we premiere the new video from Cheryl B Engelhardt

Cheryl B Engelhardt InevitablyThis week’s Thursday exclusive comes from NYC-based singer-songwriter Cheryl B Engelhardt, as Songwriting proudly brings you a world-first look at the video for Inevitably. The folk-tinged pop number is the title track from her new album, which is due out in January.

Cheryl graduated from Cornell University in New York with a degree in music and biology, and went on study orchestration at the prestigious Juilliard School. Since then she’s worked in various roles in music – working in recording studios, writing jingles for TV ads and teaching as well, of course, as touring as an indie musician in her own right. Her songs have featured in over 50 TV shows and films, and she currently runs a website called In The Key Of Success, which offers advice to aspiring musicians, as well as hosting a music business podcast called Key Conversations.

Of Inevitably, she says: “For the video I was originally wanting to keep it simple with great visuals, while also hinting at an underlying message. I wrote the song about looking for love, whether reuniting with someone you lost or finding ‘the one’. That universal hope was important to me, so it was fitting that my husband and I filmed it all over, mostly in Bern, Switzerland and New Paltz, NY. My friend and collaborator on the album, Cyndi Harvell, recommended shooting vignettes of people passing each other in time, then eventually (or inevitably) finding each other. The video is filled with a bunch of friends and even our adopted basset hound Oliver, so it’s a true collaboration, in spirit of the album.”

“Recommended if you like Sara Bareilles, Ingrid Michaelson or The Civil Wars,” says the hype sheet. But what do you think?
