Tonight’s exclusive is from the excellent Jess Morgan

Tonight’s exclusive song is a real treat for you folks and it comes courtesy of an enormously gifted UK songwriter

Norwich-based artist Jess Morgan has been called a songwriter’s songwriter and clearly the music world’s been listening, with the gifted folk musician gaining coverage on BBC Radio 2, BBC 6 Music, Uncut, The Telegraph, The Guardian, R2 and Folk Radio UK.

Having released her debut album All Swell in 2010, Morgan is now three albums and a sell-out EP into her career with a fourth LP, Edison Gloriette, due on 21 October. Her latest album saw her return to Bergen, Norway for the recording, where she: “recorded against the most incredible backdrop.”

Of tonight’s exclusive song Morgan says: “Don’t Meet Your Heroes is a new song from Edison Gloriette – my new album. I remember starting to write this song last year – it was autumn and I was touring in Scotland. I was staying in kind of an old-fashioned kind of hotel – you know, the kind where there is a trouser press and where you get a little beige kettle on the desk that you have to crawl on your hands and knees to plug into the wall in some obscure opposite corner of the room…

“In this song I skip from the viewpoint of an omniscient author – and in the choruses skip back to the overriding feeling of the protagonist in the moment – in real-time. I’d see it as kind of like the head and the heart – taking turns to speak. It’s not a way I’ve ever written before – and I can’t say I intended it that way – I think the hotel just brought that out in me!”

She’s been compared to Jessica Pratt, Julie Byrne and Brianna Lea Pruett, while we also think that fans of Alison May and The Little Stevies will love Don’t Meet Your Heroes. We’re going to pass it over to you now for the final assessment, please do leave your comments below…
