Redcast

Things are definitely looking up for Redcast…

This week’s Monday track exclusive is a slice of uptempo indie-pop with a new wave edge from Portland-based four-piece Redcast

This week’s Monday exclusive is the brand new video from Portland’s Redcast, which is taken from the band’s new The Look Up EP. The video references the early days of rock ‘n’ roll, but we think readers of “a certain age” may well detect something of a late 70s new wave influence as well.

Redcast consist of brothers Seth (vocals, keyboards), Darren (bass) and Jarrod (guitar) Brock, who formed the band in 2008, plus drummer Gibson Coy. They released their first EP, The Redcast EP, in 2009 and have since released two other EPs, The Quarter Past EP and 2014’s Talent Show Runner-Ups, which saw them named one of Portland radio station Alternative 94.7 FM’s Top 5 New Bands Of 2014. When not touring the northwest area they also, in so-Portland-it-hurts fashion, run a coffee shop called the Saint Simon Coffee Company.

Of today’s video, they tell us: “We wanted to shoot a music video in the style of an old 1960s variety show, something akin to Hollywood Palace or American Bandstand. Hollywood Bandstand, however, is a purely fictitious program existing only in the hearts and minds of those involved in the production. The exterior shots are of the Hollywood Theatre in Portland, while the interior shots were filmed at St Mary’s Academy, an all-girls Catholic high school. Filmed over the course of six hours – and edited in less – the whole experience was an absolute whirlwind, but we’re proud of how it turned out. Hope you like it!”

The hype sheet recommends this one “for fans of” The Beatles, Rooney and Phantom Planet, but see what you think…
