Deftones’ new album is “a little screwy”

The cult alt-metal act Deftones have announced that they are set to release their eighth studio album this coming September

eftones have announced that they will release their eighth studio album on 25th September. The album will be the band’s first since the death of their bassist Chi Cheng in 2013, and is claimed to be “a little screwy: by singer Chino Moreno. When speaking to BBC Radio 1, via Consequence of Sound, Moreno said: “I feel like we’ve gone into the songs and really dissected them. If something sounded a little straight, we took a left turn and made things a little screwy. We just tried something completely opposite, not to sabotage it, but to challenge ourselves and try new things that we haven’t done in the past.”

This week the band announced that they will play a one-off gig at London’s SSE Arena Wembley, as well as taking in dates in Germany and France. Speaking to NME about the gigs, Moreno said: “First of all, we’re really excited to have new songs ready to play in the UK. The new record will be out then and it’s usually the way that when we get out and get to play a new record live, it lends those new songs a whole different perspective.”

He went on to say, “So I’m excited for that. It’s always been one of our favourite places to play to go as a band… We did a whole lot of ground work there when we were coming up – playing small shows, small clubs, in smaller cities – that I feel like we’ve got a cool, strong core group of fans there, who always make it a fun time. So yeah, it’s gonna be heavy.”

Deftones play:

Bataclan, Paris (15 November)
Columbiahalle, Berlin (18 November)
Koln Palladium, Cologne (19 November)
SSE Arena Wembley, London (21 November)
