The English songwriter’s record-breaking third studio album 25 remains No 1 in the UK Album charts, ahead of The King

It’s sold more than two million copies in the UK alone and is the fastest album to do so. It’s no surprise then that Adele’s 25 has extended its run at the top of the UK Album charts, recording 6,000 more sales than Elvis Presley’s album If I Can Dream.

25 has been breaking records since it was released, taking the record for the fastest album to sell a million copies, stripping Oasis of their crown for the most copies sold in its first week and overtaking Taylor Swift’s 1989 as the USA’s highest selling album – since her second album 21.

All this has come without the aid of streaming sites, with Adele explaining: “I believe music should be an event. For me, all albums that come out, I’m excited about leading up to release day. I don’t use streaming. I buy my music. I download it, and I buy a physical [copy] just to make up for the fact that someone else somewhere isn’t. It’s a bit disposable, streaming.”

Continuing: “I know that streaming music is the future, but it’s not the only way to consume music. I can’t pledge allegiance to something that I don’t know how I feel about yet.”

Adele’s previous album 21 is estimated to have sold in excess of 30mn copies worldwide, placing it in the top 25 highest selling albums of all time.
