Stand Up To Cancer: raising funds for the campaign’s rebellion against the disease

The charity event returns to Union Chapel in 2017 and features London Contemporary Voices, The Beach and Passport To Stockholm

Friday 3 February 2017 sees the return of Stand Up To Cancer at London’s Union Chapel. British singer-songwriter, two time Mercury Prize nominee and two time MOBO award winner, Laura Mvula will headline the event with an exclusive, stripped-back performance. Other acts joining Mvula on the bill include London Contemporary Voices, The Beach and Passport To Stockholm, with an additional special guest due to be announced. Radio and television presenter Edith Bowman steps up once again as compere for the evening.

Stand Up To Cancer is a joint national fundraising campaign from Cancer Research UK and Channel 4. Launched in the UK in 2012, over £38 million has been raised, supporting more than 30 clinical trials and projects. The event takes place on the eve of World Cancer Day, raising awareness of cancer and funds for treatments.

The 2017 show follows on from the success of last year’s event, which took place in February 2016 which featured performances from Kodaline, James Morrison, Seafret, Dagny and Daniel James.

“We’re hugely grateful to this stellar line-up of artists for supporting our rebellion against the disease – we simply couldn’t do it without them,” commented Stand Up To Cancer’s Claire Rowney. “All the profits from the gig will go directly towards funding life-saving research that will bring new treatments to patients sooner and save more lives, more quickly.”

Tickets go on sale at 9:00 GMT on Friday 16 December via myticket.co.uk, costing £25 subject to booking fee, and all profits raised from the event will go to Stand Up To Cancer. To find out more about the cause, go to: standuptocancer.org.uk
