Having received early career praise from Rolling Stone and The Guardian for her 2014 debut EP release, Fable took a hiatus from the industry following the loss of a close friend in 2016. She has now re-emerged ready to produce new music with meaningful messages.

“I needed authenticity to heal from my anger and grief,” Fable said of her time away from music. “I had moments when I thought about quitting music completely and going to live in a field somewhere with a goat, but once the dust had settled, I found I had quite a lot to talk about.”

What’s actually important is the quality of interactions in the world of the senses

Her recent material includes Orbiting, a hypnotic track that addresses subjects that have prominently emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic, including mental health problems and social injustice. “We’re isolated but we’re connected” are lyrics in the song that reverberate the anguish over solitude in a digital-centric world.

“We feel our worth is based on numbers of connections when what’s actually important is the quality of interactions in the world of the senses,” says Fable of the single’s striking lines.

Fable has also been inspired to give back through her ambassador work with My Black Dog, an organization that offers free online chats for those suffering from mental health issues. She hopes to break the stigma associated with mental health and host a live show which donates its proceeds to My Black Dog once COVID guidelines allow it.

Most recently, Fable released a new song, Womb, on 27 April. This single is a commentary on normalizing the inevitable cycles of change in our world, and has a soothing yet strong sound which leaves room for listeners to draw their own interpretations from it. “[Womb] swims in the depths and never really peaks but holds you in a bassy slumber,” Fable says. “It’s about getting to know your ever-changing self.” It also provides a fitting comeback for an artist who has gone through a personal evolution and embraces the seasons of life.
