Larrivée Guitars’ L-03 Laurel Limited acoustic: “spectacular and often overlooked”

Canadian luthier Larrivée Guitars brings out a run of limited edition acoustic instruments made from an unusual species of tonewood

According to Canadian guitar maker Larrivée, the East Indian laurel (known by the scientific name of Terminalla elliptica) is a “spectacular and often overlooked” species of tonewood, with a similar look and feel to East Indian Rosewood and American and English Walnut. Which is why the manufacturer has chosen to create this limited edition run of acoustic guitars using the material.

The first of these 20 limited Laurels featuring the tonewood are now complete and delivering to select dealers. Complementing the East Indian Laurel back and sides is the Sitka spruce top, mahogany neck and ebony headplate, fingerboard and bridge. The Laurel leaf headstock inlay design is hand-inlaid and consists of 15 individually cut pieces. Each guitar carries Jean Larrivée’s hand written signature on the inside label.

Pricing for the L-03 Laurel series is set at $1,948 (approx. £1,334) for standard body styles and $2,398 (approx. £1,642) for the cutaway models. For more details, go to:
