The new loop synth changing the game

Arcade is an innovation in the world of synthesisers

Shopping for loops is dull. Arcade delivers playable instruments directly to the plugin. Music production is about to change forever

Monthly subscriptions, cloud-based browsers, and loops delivered daily. It sounds too good to be true. And it was, until 2018 when Native Instruments unleashed Sounds, a subscription-based loop library. This week LA-based studio Output released its innovative loop synthesiser, Arcade. And it, too, promises to revolutionise music production.

Output offers users a free 100-day trial to get to grips with the software, which comes pre-loaded with 15 brand new product lines. Content is organised into three layers: Product lines, Kits, and Loops. Plus, there’s a dedicated section for existing loop libraries.

The idea behind Arcade came from the lack of creativity offered by traditional loops, which some producers see as cheating; creating generic and plagiarised music.  Arcade’s streamline features should make it easier to get the most out of the samples. Controlled by a simple keyboard, white keys play the loops and the black keys modify them.

Music production can be an expensive business with endless add-ons, loop packs, hardware and software. Output’s answer to this is to offer a subscription of $10 a month, which can be cancelled at any time.
