Disco legend Nile Rodgers returns with a new Chic album in June

Nile Rodgers has signed a deal with Warners, and the first Chic album in 20 years will be in stores in June

isco legend Nile Rodgers has signed to Warner Bros Records and will be releasing a new Chic album – the first in 23 years, and the first without Rodgers’ late partner Bernie Edwards, who died in 1996 – in June. The album, a title for which has yet to be announced, will be trailed by a single, I’ll Be There, on 20 March.

Rodgers’ career has experienced something of a fillip in recent years, following his collaboration with Daft Punk on worldwide smash Get Lucky, the publication of his autobiography Le Freak, a string of high-profile festival shows (notably at Glastonbury in 2013) and the release of the career-spanning Up All Night compilation, which gathered together Chic’s hits with songs they wrote and/or produced for other artists including Sister Sledge, Debbie Harry and Diana Ross.

Warner CEO Cameron Strang said in a statement: “Nile Rodgers’ influence on the course of modern music cannot be overstated. For the past four decades, his visionary work as a songwriter, producer, bandleader and musician has reverberated across genres and generations. From groundbreaking guitar work, to an uncanny hitmaking instinct, to shaping the sound of countless artists, he has created a phenomenal musical legacy. Nile has never stopped moving forward, so I am thrilled to welcome him into the WBR family as he begins a dynamic new chapter of his extraordinary career.”
