Former Fugees songstress Lauryn Hill has announced that she will play a one-off UK gig at Brixton this coming September
auryn Hill has revealed that she will be coming to the UK this September for a one-off performance. The former Fugees songwriter will be playing at the Brixton Academy on September 20, a venue she last played 15 years ago, in what will be her only UK performance of 2014. It will be the first time that Hill has performed in the UK since she played at the Indigo2 in London in April 2012. Tickets go on sale on May 2 and are expected to sell out in light speed time.
Hill came to musical prominence with much loved soulful hip-hop group The Fugees, who achieved global success with their sophomore 1996 release The Score. The group disbanded in 1997, with the members embarking on solo projects. Hill’s solo work led to the critically acclaimed 1997 record The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill.
The fame Hill experienced in the aftermath of her debut solo release saw her retreat from the public eye and meant that her follow up record did not appear until 2002. The folky MTV Unplugged No. 2.0 was the last solo album to be released by Hill. It would be another 11 years before any new music would see the light of day, with Hill releasing the single Neurotic Society (Compulsory Mix) in May 2013.
